Would you agree with me that most interior inspiration comes from nature and animals?

Drawing inspiration from animals gives you a timeless design.  Leopard print, zebra print, faux fur, cowhides might have their in and out periods, but they will really never go out of style.  The peacock has been “in” for a while, but how can a color combination so awe inspiring ever be out? That would be crazy!

I’m so excited to have created an area on the new Live Like You site called ANIMAL INSPIRED. This week we’re focusing on one of God’s wonders – The Peacock.

How can you ever tire of these colors?

Can’t you just stare at it forever?

They beauty of the peacock inspires me daily in the work I do.

My headboard designs – The LILY was inspired by the shape of a peacock.

This is a fabric I’m using in a client’s living room coming up.

And at a magazine shoot at my house yesterday, our porch was “rescued” by an amazing table cloth from Anthropologie.

Serious Table cloth crush! (with Mustard Regency pillow)

There are wallpapers I’m dying to use.

Funny enough I was googling rooms with peacock colors for this post…

    …only to realize….

…our own living room has been done in the colors of the peacock.

    And this was unplanned!

Are you a fellow pet lover?

I’m a huge animal lover, I live with three shelter rescues, obsessed with Animal Cops on TV, and think I perhaps stop and say to hello to every dog I pass. So I’m thrilled that my friend artist Erica Ericsdotter now is commissioning pet portraits.  I just had Bubba painted as a present for Dan and was blown away by the quality, detail and expression. I don’t even think Erica knows just how amazing they are! I mentioned to her last night that I was writing this and she kindly offered 15% OFF to all Live Like You readers (ends 1/31) , just e-mail her and tell her.  Thank You Erica!

I’m delighted every time she shares her latest portrait on FB or her site.

    Here are some. Enjoy!

    SEAMUS – The Sweetie

    MOSBY

    HANK – The Portrait

    BELLA – The Princess

    NALA – The Queen

    STELLA – The Mischievous

    DELANEY – The Mancoon

    And finally….

    BUBBA – The Force

She captured him perfectly from the image I sent her. Crazy good detail.

    Now I want more…

There are just  so many moments to capture…

    Dogs are such funny creatures….

Cowhides…they’re everywhere in every color in the modern interior. I was a vegetarian for 10 years and I’m a huge animal supporter so this has been a controversial subject for me. I’ve gone through an internal battle about using them…we wear leather shoes, boots and purses, and I can’t stop the human race from being carnivorous.  They are killed for their meat, not fur…  So shouldn’t we instead cherish the beauty of the animal, instead of throwing their skin away?  How do you feel about this?  It was with much reluctance that I added them to my own home… for now I’ve allowed myself to enjoy their incredible beauty in the home.

There are several of them in every issue of Lonny magazine. There’s no arguing that they look amazing!

Looks fantastic layered in top of a natural rug. Love it in Lauren’s bedroom!

    MEDIUM BRINDLE NATURAL COWHIDE

We have this natural brindle in our EARTHY MODERN BEDROOM on LiveLikeYou!

Now they also come in all kinds of cool specialized finishes…

SPECIALTY COWHIDE – brown and white with gold splattered paint.

The black and white used to only go in western interiors only. Now it’s often used with great success in a modern interior.

    BLACK AND WHITE COWHIDE

I have a white cowhide in my living room. The white one is widely popular of late...

    WHITE COWHIDE

There’s of course the regular zebra printed cowhide that we’ve seen everywhere the last few years. I personally will never get tired of it.

ZEBRA PRINTED COWHIDE WITH FELT BACKING.

A felt backing takes it up a notch.

The zebra stripes come in a ton of colors now.  Pink, red, silver, gold…you name it.

    SILVER RUSTIC ZEBRA COWHIDE

And now we’re also seeing cut together cowhides in amazingly beautiful rugs…

So basically…they’re everywhere,  they’re beautiful and add a warm natural layer to any interior.

How do you feel about them? Would you use them in your home?

First off a BIG Happy Birthday to Luke who turned 10 this week! Happy decade!!

We are in Miami for a few days for a much needed spring break and birthday celebrations. Can I tell you…I LOVE warm weather, particularity when I read the weather report for the east coast!

Hello freckle face! I held this title for years, but I think he just beat me!!

    We love Miami Beach!!

For Luke’s birthday we went to Jungle Island and visited some beautiful animals.  I’m kind of embarrassing at places like this, because I’m crazy about all kinds of animals and have to talk to them all!

And clearly I’m suffering from some kind of design disorder because seeing the bold tropical colors on these amazing creatures, all I could think of was how about if this animal was a room?

So Luke and I bring you…

    ANIMALS RE-IMAGINED AS A ROOMS!

    THE ALBINO PYTHON!!!

You can’t tell me if that if that snake was a room it wouldn’t look like…

    …this room.

And meeting this SWEET PEACH COCKATOO who was a mature lady born in 1941, all I could see was chic Palm beach interiors.

    She could clearly be re-imagined…

    …as this room.

And these HAPPY GREETERS with their bold looks…

…mixed up would be this room.

This magically TURQUOISE PARROT in the most striking color would look great if painted in a room…

    ..like this…

…or perhaps pick up his fantastic hue in a great tropical interior?

Even this tiny RHESUS MONKEY BABY in a diaper, which we went seriously nuts for…

    …would make a great room.

And don’t let me get started on the Lifeguard Towers.

The colors make my head spin with ideas!!

    What room would this be?

Ahh, so much inspiration all around…

    Have a fantastic weekend!
