I hope you’re having a nice Thanksgiving somewhere with family and friends. This is the time of year to focus on giving thanks, something I want to make a habit to do more often. This has to perhaps become a blog series as gratitude is one of the most important things for having a happy life.

So here’s my “top ten” list!

    1. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL BLOG READERS! Your comments and e-mails are a gift to receive everyday. I’m grateful for everyone of you. I never knew I would meet so many truly amazing and talented people online!!

    2. THANK YOU to my wonderful “big” boy Luke for handling the last two difficult years with such grace, humor and empathy!

    3. THANK YOU TO DAN for putting up with the craziness surrounding my life, and commuting from New York to be with us every weekend!

    4. THANK YOU to my UGG boots that I live in every morning. HA!!  I have now forgotten I used to think they were really tacky and reminded me of Pamela Anderson. Really everyone should run out and buy a pair!

    5. THANK YOU to Bubba for making us laugh out loud every day thinking he’s the TINY boss over all of us.

    6. THANK YOU for Sweden with all it’s innocence. Just knowing it exists warms my heart.

    7. THANK YOU TO MY AMAZING FAMILY! You are the best people in the world!

    8. And THANK YOU TO MY DAD for calling us on Skype everyday! And thank you to Skype for helping families living far apart be closer.

    9. THANK YOU TO TH BEST CHIROPRACTOR COUPLE IN AMERICA!! You got me through this week and so many other times!! Christina and Dave Collins from Old Dominion Chiropractic have been my lifesavers. Any of you who work at a desk and have any kind of back or neck issues and if you are in the DC area –WRITE THIS NUMBER DOWN!  703-760-7606. It’s the best number to have on hand. Seriously.

    1.

    10. And last….THANK YOU for the ability to still have fun and find humor in most things–good or bad! Life is short!

Hope you have a continued happy thanks giving weekend!

First off a BIG Happy Birthday to Luke who turned 10 this week! Happy decade!!

We are in Miami for a few days for a much needed spring break and birthday celebrations. Can I tell you…I LOVE warm weather, particularity when I read the weather report for the east coast!

Hello freckle face! I held this title for years, but I think he just beat me!!

    We love Miami Beach!!

For Luke’s birthday we went to Jungle Island and visited some beautiful animals.  I’m kind of embarrassing at places like this, because I’m crazy about all kinds of animals and have to talk to them all!

And clearly I’m suffering from some kind of design disorder because seeing the bold tropical colors on these amazing creatures, all I could think of was how about if this animal was a room?

So Luke and I bring you…

    ANIMALS RE-IMAGINED AS A ROOMS!

    THE ALBINO PYTHON!!!

You can’t tell me if that if that snake was a room it wouldn’t look like…

    …this room.

And meeting this SWEET PEACH COCKATOO who was a mature lady born in 1941, all I could see was chic Palm beach interiors.

    She could clearly be re-imagined…

    …as this room.

And these HAPPY GREETERS with their bold looks…

…mixed up would be this room.

This magically TURQUOISE PARROT in the most striking color would look great if painted in a room…

    ..like this…

…or perhaps pick up his fantastic hue in a great tropical interior?

Even this tiny RHESUS MONKEY BABY in a diaper, which we went seriously nuts for…

    …would make a great room.

And don’t let me get started on the Lifeguard Towers.

The colors make my head spin with ideas!!

    What room would this be?

Ahh, so much inspiration all around…

    Have a fantastic weekend!

Things have returned to normal after two days of a power outage.  After the crazy “thundersnow” hit last week (snow storm combined with thunder and lightning…?), we had no heat, water, phone or internet – so therefore no blog post Friday.

A BIG THANK YOU TO LAURA for being brave enough to let people vote, and asking her radio show listeners to come over to LiveLikeYou and have a say in her home design! It was a blast reading each and every comment, and hearing how passionate people are about design. It confirmed my whole reason for starting LiveLikeYou.

AS A THANK YOU TO ALL VOTERS…WE WILL BE SEND YOU A 10% DISCOUNT CODE TO THE UPCOMING LIVELIKEYOU! And to some of Laura’s listener’s who were worried…the fabrics are all vinyl or washable and easy to clean with kids, the pieces all have easy to wash surfaces, and no…this is not a job for Candice Olsen…

    Now which design won?

After tallying all the votes on the blog, Facebook and Twitter here is the # 1 pick!

THANK YOU to Chedva for asking me to guest post on her charming blog in Tel Aviv.

I was invited to take part in her clever series “Outfit with a Past”.  It took me on a trip down memory lane to my first days in New York city.  You can hop over and read it here.

This week I’ve been very busy working on some designs for my client Laura.  She is a fun, fearless, family-oriented woman, and needs a home to match.  We’ve settled on the design for most of the house, but for her kitchen eating area, I wanted her to have a few options to choose from.  While possibly my funniest client, she is also the most particular!!  So, in true Washingtonian fashion, we decided to put it to a vote!!

The walls are pale gray, the kitchen cabinets white. Now…which one of the following designs should Laura pick to spice up her kitchen? And why?

    1. OPPOSITES ATTRACT

    2. HAPPY CHIC

    3. RETRO VINTAGE

    4. SUPER MOD

    Thanks for casting your vote!

By voting before midnight January 28, you automatically enter yourself for a chance to win one of 3 Marmalade Design Pillows. One winner will be pulled from blog, one from Facebook and one from Twitter!

Winners will be announced Monday January 31st!

Most of these products are from our upcoming site LiveLikeYou, which will offer free interior design. LiveLikeYou donates 5% of all sales to charity.
