Well this Christmas vacation didn’t exactly go the way we had planned. There’s been a lot of bizarre and extreme “first time” experiences.  So I’m wondering…

    …have you ever….

…fallen ill with the stomach flu the first day of Christmas vacation, and have it make the rounds in your family?

Have you ever been quarantined to your house for five days straight unable to see the family and friends you came to visit?

Have you ever driven in a car with iced up windows?

Have you ever gone out to a local pizza joint and been forced to eat the meal with all your snow gear on, because they were unable to heat the place?

Then halfway through your meal have the power go out and  have to leave?

    And find it really funny?

Have you ever let your kids to play in -10 Fahrenheits?

Have you ever gone skating in a ski outfit from the early 90′s because your luggage has been lost by the airlines all week?

Have you ever planned on going skating with your brother, then have him call you and let you know his car slid off the icy road down into a ditch and straight on to a light pole, leaving the car totaled?

But miraculously be completely unscathed, and still be able to come and skate with you one hour later?

Have you ever taken a sled down a steep hill in the dark at 4pm so fast you glide all the way out on an icy lake with your friendly neighbors?

Have you ever come in so cold you think you’ll never heat up?

Have your feet ever been so cold they’re in pain, and have them slowly warm up on a hot tile fireplace?

Then tried to take a shower but the water in the shower has frozen?

Have you ever had to heat a meal on a stove from the 1800′s, because the power went out in the kitchen due to cold weather?

And learned that it works perfectly?

Have you ever had your brother  shovel the snow close to the house to make it warmer?

While your father is fixing one power outage after another?

    And with great success?

Have you ever gone to bed the night before Christmas and wished for a nice normal day with the family and friends you love?

And known that all the crazy struggles that come your way makes for the best memories?

    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

Just as much as I love the serene snow inspired Christmas back home – I love the colorful ways people are celebrating the holidays around the world.  After all I’m a COLOR ADDICT!!

Who says a Christmas tree can’t be pink?

One of the most fun and unusual trees I’ve seen this year is designer Toby Fairley’s home. Her daughter is one lucky girl to have this pink wonder in her room. This tree makes me smile.

A tree filled with little monkeys!!

    Fake snow and bold pink.

I’m intrigued with all the summery Christmas decorations in Australia.  I always wondered what it would be like to go to the beach on Christmas day.

The Black & Spiro store goes pink all the way. What a cheerful holiday.

A fabric Christmas tree fit for summer time…

    A reindeer dressed in pink?

Ahh, beach pillows….Sit in your sunny room, then head down to the beach and surf!!

I found this beautiful Christmas wreath done with flowers on an Australian blog (forgot which one). It says it all!

A solid pink tree via Swiss Miss blog.

And my friend Nadine’s magical pink tree in Montreal.

What are your favorite colors for Christmas? Is your tree an unusual color?

My favorite thing about Christmas is to go back home to Sweden.  I get the brutal weather report from my mother every day, 10- 12 degrees Fahrenheit and last night when I checked my Iphone it said -4 degrees!! But I still can’t wait to get there next week!

The whole country is covered with snow and ice, and it’s dark except for a couple of hours a day, but there’s nothing like a cold, crisp winter night, when the glistening snow lights up the darkness.  Everything is so beautiful, icy, quiet and serene. Really nothing like it! Some great designers say you should draw inspiration from what you see outside the window.  So perhaps there’s no mystery to the much simpler, natural and white Swedish Christmas decor.

It’s a magical white winter wonderland at home right now.

All that white nature right inside?

Simple natural wreath and all colors of snow right in your bedroom.

Natural wreaths and earth tones mimic the snowy trees outside.

    The outdoors celebrated inside?

This is what I see for hours on the long drive from the airport to our house.

Snow and evergreens-do we really need anything else in Christmas decor?

Natural wood headboard and natural floors. The colors of ice and wood.

The Stockholm archipelago on a “slushy” snow day.

Ahh…the simplicity of it all. And much easier to decorate your home.

Do you think Swedes draw inspiration from what they see out the window?

My talented photographer, artist (and ex-model) friend Nadine Hennelly sent me these fun photos of her Christmas decorated home in Montreal from Decor magazine.  Very much in the spirit of “LiveLikeYou”!
