Thought you might enjoy some interiors by designer Jamie Meares of Furbish studio. It’s refreshing to see a designer who really thinks outside the box and creates cozy, colorful, personable and fun interiors. Any color, pattern goes and you have one guarantee….you will never be bored in any of these spaces. In every room you can take home an Outside the Box tip!

    Enjoy!

All images via Lonny or Furbish.

Use wild art above the bed and mix country, mid century and modern.

Don’t be afraid of mixing shapes and periods.

Use a mirror above the bed. Who wouldn’t want to sleep here?

Let the ceiling entertain you, and mix textures with abandon.

    Give the bathroom personality!

    Cozy modern country.

Mix dining chairs and modern patterns with classics.

Wallpaper the back of a book case.

Let whimsy and imagination guide your space.

Use a love seat as seating for your dining table and stop worrying about matching materials. It will work like a charm when you go with your gut.

    Follow your heart.

Yes…. if I’m really honest I start feeling slightly depressed when I’m in a home with no color or imagination. I start feeling restrained and bored, and it makes me fidgety and stressed. While somehow in really expressive interiors,  I get a sense of calm.

I’m probably the last one to tune in to Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s genius work. Now that I just added his fabric in my foyer, I want to share his amazing interiors, filled with TONS of fantasy, pattern and color.  No wonder amazing, famous artists with excessive creativity clamor for him to do their homes.

    Insanely cool.

    Happy green wall.

    Welcoming hotel in Palm Springs.

    Makes your mind travel.

    What a dream teen room!

    Dreamy color combo.

    Fun.

This might be my favorite of all. A theatrical seating out in the sun.

Hello foyer chair fabric! Looks great as a curtain.

    Zebra outdoor seating.

    Awesome black and white outdoors.

Yep, I would feel very calm in his spaces!

I get asked the question all the time “what inspires you?”  There are always a million answers as inspiration is all around everyday.  But there are also a ton of talented interior designers who really inspire me, the list is very long. A few of those have at points in my life, taken my taste and style  in a different direction.

Although their interiors are very varied, they have one thing in common. THEY ARE ANTI MINIMALISTS!

They are fearless about their use of color, masters of creating a room that not only is beautiful, but one that takes you to to a different “dimension”.  Perhaps Dorothy Draper said it best, she urged people to avoid the “will to be dreary”.

Interiors to me should move your senses, and all these designers are experts at it.

    ENJOY:

    1. DOROTHY DRAPER

The drama starts at the front door! Just looking at a door in her interiors, you’re existed before you even enter. The drama, the grandeur, the clear strong, colors, the large moldings, all the black and white, and mostly what inspires me is her outlook!!

    2. TONY DUQUETTE

A genius artist. When he created it must have been a spiritual experience! Your imagination runs wild looking at his interiors.  The warm strong color combinations, the animal prints and wild shapes, the fantasy. An icon. Amazing!

    3. KELLY WEARSTLER

Probably a legend in a 100 years. Love her style. She was my first modern interior inspiration. Mid century style, cool patterns, wild designs, but incredibly glamorous spaces.

    4. AMANDA NISBET

Great modern, colorful interiors. They are just so pretty!!

    5. LYNN VON KERSTING

She designed one of my best friend’s home (before I did interiors!!) Spending a ton of time in her cozy house filled with flower prints, and an irresistible beach bohemian beach vibe was a true joy.  Perhaps you’ve been to one of the Ivy restaurants in LA, which she designed as well.

    Hayley’s house

    6. RUTHIE SUMMERS

I would give this lady my key, go away, and let her do just about anything she wants! All I would say is surprise me. A few lucky clients I guess can do this!! It’s again this modern mid century playful take on relaxed California interiors that I’m crazy about.

    7. MILES REDD

A genius with color and NON boring interiors.  Love every thing he does.

This is his design on a dime room.

    7. DAVID HICKS

His interiors were way ahead of his time. the king of geometric patterns. Any of his designs still feel modern today.

    8. SCHUYLER SAMPERTON

Again another California designer who creates beautiful, west coast, bohemian interiors with lots of colors. They make me want to grab a surfboard and head out west.

So many talented people out there.

    Do you have any favorites?

I’m leaving for the long weekend on a way over due break, as Luke, Dan and I will be going down to warmer temperatures. Luke more than any of us needs this. Something new to take in, to remind him of all the great things that are still out there in life, and that he can look forward to after these two dark months.

I won’t be blogging for a few days. But leaving you with some images of Celerie Kemble’s work. Just proving that mixing old world with modern, with a casual vibe, and something unexpected all mixed together is something that can last forever.

All images interiors design Celerie Kemble.

Have a fantastic rest of the week & weekend!
