Hope you are enjoying your holiday.

I wanted to quickly share some pictures of our snowy week. I LOVE SNOW. I grew up in it, but now live in a place where it rarely snows, so I soak it up while here.

Everything looks magical (and clean) with a thick white snow cover.  Don’t you think?

Looking out from a bedroom one morning. White and quiet.

I never get bored with this view.

The house on a cold afternoon.

The barns and my mother’s car after an overnight dusting.

    Daily sledding.

    Just enjoying it.

A walk through the evergreen woods that cover this entire country!

Did he show up at your house?

A walk to the edge of our little village with my good friend Monika.

Homemade ice bar at my brother’s house. Cocktail party with mousse burgers.

My dad took charge of the renovations in the guest house and made it all come to completion this summer.  So FINALLY after six years, yes six years it is pretty much done.

Thank You Dad for stepping in and making it happen! It looks great.

One of the things that needed to be done was to install a small kitchen.

The house is only used when we have guests, but it needed a small place to cook. I had looked at many inspiration pictures and knew I wanted shelves above a small cooking space. I had picked out the IKEA cabinets I wanted, but that’s a HUGE step away from actually figuring out a kitchen from IKEA. As all of you who have tried it know!

We checked out the IKEA website and selected this mini kitchen.

It’s about $ 1,000. I had already selected the “look” pieces such as hardware and cabinet style, but still felt overwhelmed by how this puzzle would be put together. Turns out we couldn’t add the cabinet doors to this, so my dad went to work piecing together a similar design.

He did this quick mock up drawing and e-mailed me!

He came up with a solution that cost only $ 800!! Looked perfect in the drawing….

And it looks even better in real life!!

My dad installed it with a couple of retired carpenters.

I wanted  a picture of him here, but he refused appearing on the blog in work clothes!!

    I picked STAT cabinet fronts.

    And simple stainless steel knobs.

My dad was also in charge of getting the upstairs sleeping hall painted and fixing the staircase to it.

(These are lupines, they grow EVERYWHERE right now, so I can’t help myself…I put them everywhere! Such a pretty wild flower!)

I added West Elm curtains with shells and a turquoise lantern.

And one thing remains to be done downstairs…..

PAINTING THE FLOOR A MUTED TURQUOISE!!

My dad is against this –why ruin a perfect floor?  A couple of years ago we installed a stone floor, but the stones were not the color they were in the store and have a pinkish feel to them.  And turquoise will be so pretty with the other blues and the blue lake and sky just outside window!!

You can climb upstairs and get up to what will be the sleeping hall….

It looked like this three years ago….halfway done.

This guest house used to be the home of the farmhands 100 years ago. There were all kinds of old, old tools up here.

    Now it looks like this….

Only the floor is left to be painted white. I like an all white backdrop! My brother added the floor and wood molding. Love it!

I’m planning for 5-6 single beds in here for sleep over parties. When we were kids we had a sleeping loft where all the kids slept and it was a lot of fun.

    Can’t wait to design it!

This week we”ll go out and do some Swedish thrift shopping.

I bought this is a desk and chair I bought a couple of years back.  All the pieces..the chair, the fabric remnant and the desk was not more than a few dollars. No need to even paint anything.

I hear it’s been a heat wave over in the states. Hope you’re all surviving it. I will enjoy the 70 degree weather over here for a couple of more weeks!

We’ve been waiting all winter for snow to fall in Sweden, so a Town & Country winter shoot could take place at our house. The magazine’s plan was an authentic Bergmanesque magical winter shoot.  NO such luck, all winter there was nothing but a light dusting of snow. The warmest winter in Sweden in years.  While we’re waiting for snow (nothing in 6 months!) the head design editor resigns from the magazine.

    Bummer. Oh, well.

So since we never got to go home, I took Luke out of school this week and headed to Sweden.  Construction is going on in the guest house, rooms need to be updated, and most importantly Luke needs some time with his grandparents.  Two new shoots are on the horizon, so I’m going to work on updating some stuff this week.

The first change I made was to add my new BANG BANG duvet design in the master bedroom….

Definitely need to invest in a good camera, but you can see with these snapshots what it looks like.

It’s a strong pattern in red. This duvet design is also available in KOBALT BLUE, BLACK and TURQUOISE on the site. We’re still waiting for all the samples to shoot it. Can’t wait for some professional photography!

I shot it with the Josef Frank chair, and the vintage painting and lamp. A bit bohemian.

The BANG BANG EURO SHAMS. I tried different styling. In the background is the blue and white bedding from Urban Outfitters, in the front a Suzani pillow.

I think this bedding can go in a modern room, but also in a country style room.

This room has a distinct country vibe with country florals and all white wood plan walls.

    Here it looks more modern.

This is the BANG BANG Eurosham again. It also comes in a Standard sham. We just don’t have pictures of it on the site yet!

Vintage find that I use as a pen cup.

While I’m snapping this summer scene in here…..

    …what happens?

Over the lake a sudden windy storm pulls in…a SNOW STORM!!

20 minutes later the front yard looks like this:

Luke, his cousins and the neighbor’s boys had to quit their soccer game, after being pummeled by hail, snow and strong winds.

I love the cool snowy spring weather in Sweden. The air is so fresh.  And this fireplace warms the entire room.

One second it’s spring, one second winter.  I guess it’s a typical April over here.

Looking forward to Easter and Swedish Easter witches this weekend.

    Here’s to a great week!

Okay…this is a post my mother will probably hate.

Our sweet summer house in Sweden has graciously escaped my need to modernize and colorize. Yet I’m planning now, how to carefully add some splashes of color and modern elements without ruining the quiet country vibe.   The best thing about it there, is the peacefulness, and the Swedish simplicity and I certainly don’t want to take that away.  But when Luke and I are heading there for Easter, I’m bringing a suitcase of stuff, to prepare it for a bunch of shoots. I also have a list of makeovers that I hope to accomplish. It needs just a few touches to make it a bit more visually interesting…(sorry mom.)

This is my all white bedroom with my favorite Swedish Tenn fabric chair….

White painted floor boards, walls and ceiling.

There are funky vintage finds, some are good, some are too shabby chic for me. There are also a few good antiques.

There are floral slip covers in primary colors.

The bed is covered in a sweet floral bed cover from Anthropology, which I love.

This is from a shoot two years ago. The bedding and pillows will be my first change, Although I’ll still use this as a summer option.

But I’m adding my new Bang Bang bedding in here in RED….to match the shades on the chandelier (not pictured)

    Just a  little graphics….

I think it will stand out in all the whiteness.

And make the room a little spicier. At least some element of design.

    I’ll get new lamps.

I want to add some of my dusty rose velvet regency pillows, maybe even one chartreuse.

What I really dream of is this gorgeous room designed by Woodson Rummerfield….

But I just wouldn’t do that.

    Hmm…

So I will take 10% from this as inspiration.

Once we get home I will think about how, just how I can add some of my colors and graphics to peaceful Swedish country interiors….

    ..without ruining it.

    Hmm….can I?
